The mission of the Department of Social Work is to contribute to the strengthening and renewal of family and communities through quality teaching and research. We adhere to the basic ethical values of the profession of social work and the concept of a socially responsible university.

We are focused on social work with the family. We are unique in terms of the focus on international social work and humanitarian assistance. We develop research in both areas which reacts to the current issues of the practice. We support our students in volunteer activities and civic involvement. We initiated the establishment of the Volunteer Centre at UP. We organise the bachelor degree programme and the linked study programme of Social Work. We cooperate in our teaching with both domestic and foreign specialists in the areas of social and humanitarian work. We work at linking education with practice by developing the teaching strategy of service-learning. We have both been initiators and partners in international, national and regional projects focused on professionalization of social work, inclusive education and social innovation.
